Flat was actually quite nice at the start although there was quite a lot of stuff left behind by the previous Tennent which the landlord had not cleaned and also a shed on the property filled with the landlord's belongings which they did not empty over the 2 years of us living there and asking them to give us right to vacant possession. The other issue was trying to get the landlord to fix things, this included a rather large leak in the first bedroom that took over a year for them to attempt to fix (they never did fully fix it as by that time the full door frame had rotted away) A pile of dirt they had dumped in front of the house that when neighbours complained they moved to the middle of our lawn to grow weeds this list goes on.

Beautiful little flat on Oriental Bay. Really well maintained and a super responsive, friendly landlord - she even let us bring our cat despite a no-pet policy. No mould issues aside from the bathroom due to poor ventilation, and any maintenance problems were dealt with swiftly.

Location was great (central Newtown on the main road) - but that’s where the good ends. Two of the bedrooms had no external windows, one faced a concrete wall. Damp was the name of the game - I still have mould-affected belongings from living here, despite trying my best to dehumidify and ventilate the place. There were also ant infestations and carpet beetles - the property manager wasn’t very helpful, and the landlord (slumlord) seemed very reluctant to do anything to help reduce the mould in the house, like shower domes or insulation. Still have mould-related trauma from living here. You also get the bonus of Newtown drunks/homeless banging on the door at night and exposing themselves to urinate in the driveway

Very convenient location to Newtown shops, and super pretty street. My room was really nice with beautiful fireplace and bookshelves and got heaps of sunlight. My only issue was the curtain rail which was falling off and inadequate curtains. The landlord never fixed this even though I asked, I just did it myself. The lounge and kitchen were pretty sub par and small and had little to no sunlight. The garden was cute, laundry was in the outhouse/shed which was average. A bit rough around the edges but decent flat.

My first flat and the worst place I have lived, although it's pretty standard for ****ty Wellington student flats. The house is down from the road so it attracts damp easily. My room always got black mould on my window sills and curtains had to clean this every few months. The house would be bone cold in winter, single glazing, not a shred of insulation and no heat pump. Landlord was basically non-existent. We did get a property manager at one point and she was very concerned about the condition of the house, nothing improved by the time I moved out though. Curious to know what's happened to this place now.

Right next to the very busy loud main road, but feel relatively safe walking around the neighbourhood. Not too far away from Riccarton uni etc but could be closer. Rather run down and landlord does not like to fix things. Gets deathly hot in summer to the point where the living room and kitchen is too hot to enter and also gets rather cold in winter. Neighbours are not very good singers but lovely. Property manager does her best and is lovely but landlord is difficult

Good location in terms of the mall and uni but felt very unsafe. Very cold in winter. Landlord did not like to fix things, slight mold problem

Took seven months to fix the toilet, has a illegal bedroom, cold, no healthy homes report (I asked for it TWICE in writing and was ignored both times), drafty, you share hot water with three other apartments, mold everywhere and maggots would drop down from the ceiling in the hallway which had no light.

Absolutely horrible flat. Mould everywhere, mice, window leaked constantly and dryer didn’t dry clothes. Landlord told us that the leaking was condensation from the windows and we just needed to open them (even though the floor had a constant puddle under the window) - moved out because every single piece of furniture had to be thrown out due to horrendous mould
